Chapter Eight

A week later.

The team arrived back in Spain a day earlier and went to the home of their contact Acevedo Vasquez, current military on the prime minister’s security detail. He was unmarried, with no kids. He helped to tip off the president about what Fenton and Hernandez were trying to pull off. A map laid on the table as they all stood around and went over the details of the crowd and security he had established.

“Fenton’s going to be there. If he sees us,” Teagan spoke.

“I know, which is why I think you should dress in our uniform,” Acevedo answered.

“The news is going to be all over this. How do we get him before they swear him in?” Spider questioned.

“We have a short window of time,” Broderick said.

“Acevedo will let us in the room?”

“The second we contact him. Things should run through here,” Spider said, pointed to the area around Zarzuela Palace.

“How long are you thinking?” Teagan asked Acevedo.

“It shouldn’t be more than thirty minutes to take him,” Acevedo replied.

“Once we take him, what do we do?” Gregory stated.

“Kill him,” Teagan remarked.

“That will start an international crime,” Broderick said.

“The president wants the ambassador arrested, and Hernandez accidentally dies in an accident,” Teagan explained, circling Hernandez and Fenton’s photos.

“Who takes over?” Spider inquired, putting on his bulletproof vest and military uniform.

“Someone the president has worked with and wants to support the country’s policies.”

“Who?” Spider and Broderick asked at the same time.

“Me,” Acevedo replied.

“So, we’re going beyond The Firm’s reach?” Daughtrey said, running a hand down his face.

“Hernandez has too much power. The second he takes the oath of office, it’s over,” Teagan explained, tying her boots.

“We have no choice. The president made the call.” After Teagan slid her jacket on, she grabbed an extra gun and put it in her holster.

“Are you ready to take over and govern a country? I mean, are they going to accept him?” Spider questioned, peering at Acevedo. He followed Teagan as she carried two bags outside.

“He’s ready to take over, and Acevedo is popular in Spain. His campaign will have the full backing of the US,” Teagan explained, loading up the black Hummer.

“Daughtrey, you’re driving the second car; it’s bulletproof. Broderick, you’re with Acevedo and me,” Teagan told them, opening the passenger door and putting on her seatbelt.

Removing everything that could incriminate them, Gregory walked out with the map, so they’d be prepared.

Spider passed Teagan a walkie and an earpiece, so they’d all stay in contact. Acevedo passed Teagan the latest Hernandez photo with him walking off the plane and getting inside the limo to head to the swearing-in ceremony.

“Make sure you try to avoid any gunfire as much as possible,” Teagan remarked over the walkie.

“Copy that,” Gregory said.

The car started with Acevedo driving, and Broderick in the backseat. It was going on ten in the morning, and normally, they’d do operations at night, thus not having to shield themselves so much. Teagan thought of every scenario that could cause a ripple in the plan.
